Illustrated London News announces the launch of Sphere,
a new luxury travel and lifestyle magazine
16 June 2008 - Illustrated London News (ILN), one of the UK’s leading publishing and digital companies specialising in the luxury and travel sectors, will launch Sphere magazine on 20 June 2008. The glamorous publication will be issued quarterly and contains an inspirational mix of culture, travel and lifestyle news and features.
Sphere will be distributed within exclusive hotels, clubs and travel points around the world, including Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises, British Airways Club and First Class cabins, Virgin Atlantic, the lounges of Emirates and Cathay Pacific, and five-star hotels in London including the Dorchester, Claridge’s and the Sanderson.
Sphere is the successor to Orient-Express Magazine, which ILN has been publishing for the past 25 years. It will be complemented by an Asian edition, Sphere Asia, which will succeed Orient-Express (Eastern & Oriental) Magazine. The publication will have a circulation of 85,000 copies and 35,000 for the Asian edition.
Lisa Barnard , ILN’s Chief Executive, said: “There is a dearth of magazines in the luxury and travel sector with really readable content delivered in a truly inspirational way. Sphere is a unique example of a customer magazine that has expanded way beyond its original remit, enabling it to become a stand-alone, independent title. We will expand the magazine’s reach further over coming months, including partnerships with complementary luxury brands.”
David Williams, Vice President - Sales & Marketing for Orient-Express Hotels, said: “We are delighted to be introducing our discerning guests worldwide to Sphere. ILN continues its distinguished track record of creative and stylish publishing, with Sphere capturing the essence of today’s luxury lifestyles both elegantly and interestingly.”
A dedicated website, spherelife.com, is also planned, aiming to be a luxury travel portal with exclusive city guides for discerning travellers, creating online marketing opportunities.

Notes to Editors:
- Sphere magazine is owned by ILN, and the title takes its inspiration from a title in the ILN magazine archive, The Sphere, which was published weekly between 1900 and 1964. The magazine will be edited by ILN’s Group Editor Alison Booth, and contributors include John Arlidge, Simon Mills, Nick Foulkes and Peter Frost.
